How to Dry Dreadlocks

    How to Dry Dreadlocks

When being washed, going swimming or even on a really rainy day, Dreads can soak up huge amounts of Water!

As most experienced dreadies know, this is not a bad thing at all. Washing your dreads and keeping them clean is crucial for Dreadlocks and the Dreadlocking process. Drying them properly is just as Important and will save you from damp Dreads for the rest of the day or even smelly dreads if they are left wet for long enough.

Super Dread Guide for Drying Dreadlocks:

Step 1: Wring Out your Natties

After you get out the shower, bath or sea, it helps to squeeze as much water as possible out of your Dreadlocks!

If they are long enough, this can be easily done in the same manner as you would with a soaking wet piece of laundry, give dreads a good squeeze from top to bottom and a gentle twist if necessary until you have got as much water out as possible.

If your Dreads are really long... you can always get a friend to help!! :o)

After this, Dreads will feel much lighter and more comfortable as they will no longer be soaking wet... just dripping wet.

Step 2: Shake and Swing your Dreads

Think of your favourite song, sing it or put it on...and let your dreadlocks dance along.

With short Dreads, this is really easy and fun to do...Lively up and shake them like Bob Marley.

    • If your Dreads are a longer, we recommend bending over slightly and gently swinging them from side to side. Damp dreads will still be heavier than normal so make sure to be careful and avoid straining any muscles or injuring an innocent passerby.

Step 3: Wrap up with a Good Towel

Our Super Dread Micro Fibre Towel can soak up to 8 times its own weight in water and will help dry your Dreadlocks Quickly and Efficiently. It is light weight, great for travelling and will save you using multiple traditional bath towels to get your Dreadlocks to the point they are no longer dripping wet.

Check out our selection of Microfibre towels, we have two sizes currently available:

    1. Travel Size, measuring 40 cm x 120 cm
    2. Large, measuring 60 cm x 120 cm

Step 4: Use the Sunshine, the Wind or a Hairdryer

After using our Microfibre Towel your Dreads will be mostly dry. At this stage you have a few options to choose from:

    • If it is a nice Sunny day or even a Windy day, a great way to get Dreadlocks completely dry is to get out and about with your Dreads nice and free (not tied up or tied back). This will allow a good amount of air flow and the Sun and Wind will have them Dry in no time.

    • When you are in a rush, or if you just like to have your Dreads dry as quickly as possible. Using a Hair Dryer is a quick way to do it. With your Dreads mostly dry after following the above steps, blow drying your Dreads at this stage will be quick and easy. It is always best to use a low - medium heat to avoid damaging the scalp or burning your hair!!
